An Exchange of Cultural Manners

Hi everyone,

There was something to celebrate since it was Marie’s 25th birthday two weeks ago. The day itself was nothing special and felt like every other work day, but in return the evening was more spectacular. We went to a new burger place in Royal Oak called Jim Brady’s Detroit. They offer burgers like Charlie Brown (the best Swiss and Bacon Burger), The Inferno (spicy with fried onions) or Bad Axe (with Applewood Smoked Bacon and Maple Bourbon Sauce). They all tasted fantastic. After dinner, my roommates, Donghee and Wen, surprised me with a huge birthday cake at home. There was no other choice than having it for dessert. It was such a great birthday, although my family and friends couldn’t celebrate with me as usual.

A lot happened last week. The main event was St. Patrick’s Day on Thursday, March 17. It all began at the office in the morning. Larry arrived in a green sweater and Marie also wore a green shirt. As soon as Larry noticed the missing green clothes of the other co-workers, he set up a short meeting to clarify the importance of St. Patrick’s Day. Even if it’s an Irish holiday, the Americans are celebrating this day very much. The celebration starts already in the morning when you get dressed and ends in one of the Irish pubs at night. So did we. After work we directly went to O’Tooles, one the most famous Irish bars in Downtown Royal Oak. The whole city went crazy and even the beer was green.

On Friday we made German Schnitzel for our American roommates. It was quite easy to get the ingredients as well as preparing the meal. We actually did a good job since everyone enjoyed it.

The following day we went hiking at Kensington Metropark to burn off the calories from the night before. It turned out to be a great day even if it’s still March. Although the temperature was still low, the sun was shining and the day outdoors was quite nice.

I won’t be an intern anymore. :)

Hi everybody! There is news again from my life. You know, I am a person who never stops doing something. Either I travel almost every weekend (like I did in the States) or I am looking for new challenges all the time. :-) Well, my internship in Munich as a marketing consulting intern is not too bad, but I have finished University…so what I want is a real job and not an internship. (The only internship I would love to do, even after I graduated, is the one I already did with AutoCom). :) So I continued applying for jobs. I restricted the area to Bavaria for the first applications, because I love that part of Germany. I love the Bavarian dialect (it is so cute and sexy the same time). I love their “Brezn” and their white sausages. And here is the news: I will start on the 26th of November as an employee at Novartis. Novartis is a huge German pharmaceutical company. I will work there for the strategic sourcing marketing. So I will be the one choosing agencies, advertising materials and so...

About Cologne, Cars and Trees… - Update from the other Side of the Lake

Hi or as we would say in Franconia "Servus", a couple of months have passed since I started my internship at AutoCom and even though I cannot share something about the amazing sites within and around Detroit, I can still give you an update on what is happening.  Philipp has joined us two months ago and we two are currently working on the Social Media Appearance of AutoCom. Even as "digital nomads" we encounter challenges and still have a lot to learn. However, it is great just to create new things from scratch or nearly immediately see a result when sharing a story or creating a post.  But enough of work… About Cologne Larry and the others offered me to go to Cologne to attend a meeting with a client and I - of course - couldn't resist and decided to stay even a bit longer. It was a nice trip with splendid late summer weather and I was able to take a lot of images - at least until my battery died.  About cars Since some of my initial projects were crushed by th...
Hi everyone, My name is Sarah Heuser. I’m 23 years old and from a small town near Cologne, Germany. I just finished my master’s in Journalism and Corporate Communications at the University of Applied Sciences in Wuerzburg. Even though I have a bachelor’s degree in Media and American Studies, I have never been to the US before. That’s why I really wanted to do an internship here so I could see what life and work is like. Rebecca and Julian, the other AutoCom interns, picked me up from the airport last Saturday and my new roommates and some of their friends were already waiting for me. We are all living in Royal Oak, but I’m in a different house than the other AutoCom interns. They are currently taking me to work as I am still figuring out details regarding my car. Last week, which was also my first week at work, was the 4 th of July holiday. That’s why I joined Rebecca, Julian and other interns on a trip to New York. We drove over ten hours but it was worth it: the city is impr...
