Say it again!

It's always hard to speak a foreign language. The last 6 weeks I've heard and read a lot "Denglisch." I want to post now the cutest and funniest sentences. Don't be afraid, I won't use any names and to defend me and Nicky, we didn't say all of these wrong sentences. We know some other Germans :-) "Lauren, there is an animal in your hair!" "I can’t take a photo. The bliss doesn’t work!" "There is some pub in the fridge. You can have it." "Yes, she told me. I become a new computer." "Where do you dream from??" (It sounds absolutly correct for German people) "I spend 5 bugs!" Not only the language gave me/us a hard time sometimes. The American culture and way of life is in some ways very different to the German culture. Nicky and I thought about the biggest differences about Germany and the USA: Driving a car: The first days on the American street was a real experience. It looks the same like in
Hey interns! Here are some greetings from Germany: Hallo, Moin Moin, Tach (Just to feel sure you guys don't forget the German language) It is a long time ago since I wrote about myself on this blog but today is the day. Silke` s back! ;-) At the moment I am very busy organizing everything for the internship. There's a lot you have to keep in mind: visa, passport, insurance, apartment, credit card (I haven't imagined that you have to fill out so many forms to work in the U.S.A.) But I can't wait to fly over the ocean. It's less than four months and I am in Detroit! Jiiiiha! If I am not busy with planning and studying, I like to party! Last month we celebrated the 25th birthday of my sister Renate. In my hometown it is tradition that women get a wreath made out of cigarette packets and men get a wreath out of little bottles. It is said that 25years old ladies are as old as an old cigarette packet that's the whole purpose. That birthday party was a lot of fun, the

Who is Wayne???

Now I am more than one month here and time is going by so fast. I wanted to post earlier, but we had some problems with the blog. My first month was more like a week. Getting a Social Sec. No, a bank account, finding a new place, discovering Detroit (I got totally lost when I moved to my new place, but thank god I have my own navigation system called Nicky&Josh :o)). My new place downtown. I just have to figure out, how I can get rid of my room mate "Young" :-) But the hardest thing was to find a car. In particular I had one big problem: Former interns bought their cars at Wayne’s garage. But nobody at AutoCom knew Wayne’s last name. And trying to find Wayne by the search terms “Wayne, garage and car” at google was very ineffective. Asking all former interns was interesting, too. Nicky and I got very different information and so we tried to merge all the different pieces of the puzzle to one big “Wayne’s-Address-Puzzle”. But finally we got to Wayne’s garage. For all futu
The Renaissance Center, nicknamed the “RenCen”, is a group of seven interconnected skyscrapers in downtown Detroit. The central tower is called the “Detroit Marriott at the Renaissance Center”, with 73 floors and a height of 758 ft. The Coach Insignia, an exclusive restaurant at the top of the RenCen was the location of AutoComs SAE World Congress Media Dinner where clients and media interacted. The reason was the SAE World Congress 2007, an exhibition for automotive suppliers at the Cobo Center. The day of the event, Maggi and I went early to check-up the preparation. Before the first guests arrived, we had time to enjoy the wonderful view overlooking Detroit. It was my first big event with AutoCom and I was very nervous. At 6 p.m. the first guests arrived at the Restaurant and I had no longer time to be concerned. After the set-up I went to my table and we started with the dinner. The food was awesome and I had a nice conversation with my tablemates Dr. Winfried Lehr (MANN+HUMMEL), C
