Toronto, here we come!

Last Thursday, Annika and I headed off to Toronto with four other Germans for the Easter weekend. The journey started at our house in Royal Oak, where we loaded two cars with our luggage. Since two of us in one car and one in the other were girls, you can imagine we had plenty of luggage! After around an hour on the road we arrived at the border. When we approached the check point, I was driving the car, so I opened my window to speak to the officer. He started asking me a question, but unfortunately I didn’t hear at all what he was saying. After the second time I still didn’t get what he was asking, it suddenly occurred to us that we could turn off the radio and see if that helps! No wonder, it did help! And his question was simply: “What citizenship do you have?” After we told him, the officer continued speaking very slowly. He must have thought we don’t speak English at all! At 10.30pm that night we entered downtown Toronto. The skyline was just amazing! After making our way through

Time to go…

April? It’s already April? I can’t believe that today is the last day of my internship at AutoCom! The last six months flew by so quickly and now my desk is cleared and I passed my assignments on to Annika. I want to thank you all so much for having me here. I’ve had a great time and learned many things about public relations. I really appreciate the opportunity of working in an American business and being able to be involved in a lot of different projects and to bear responsibility. It’s really hard for me to give up the life I started in Detroit. I met a lot of wonderful people and made good friends. Also, I experienced a lot during my trips and outings. Luckily, my stay is not over yet. On Monday I’m going to fly to California for ten days. Afterwards I’ll relax for 14 days in Yucatan, Mexico. Can you imagine how excited I am? ;-) After that I’ll come back to Detroit for two more days to fly home to Germany. But I’m planning on coming back to the U.S. to visit in summer 2010 or 2011

Where the heck is Investment Drive?!

March 25, 2009, 7.15am: I just left my house in Royal Oak and make my way now to I-696. It is raining cats and dogs. I had to get up at 6.30am. Can’t remember the last time I got up that early! I am supposed to be in Farmington Hills at 8.30am and meet up with Andi and Marty at Daimler Financial Services. PRSA is having a breakfast meeting there. I am so excited! My first business meeting! Google Map says it will take about 21 min to get there. I don’t want to be late, so I leave way in advance, just to make sure that I am there on time! March 25, 2009, 7.20am: I am now on I-696, I can hardly see anything. It is dark and raining. My average speed is 55/mph. Why is everybody passing me?! March 25, 2009, 7.30am: I am still on I-696. Where is my cell phone?! In my purse maybe?! I didn’t leave it at home, did I?! … Yes, I did. Okay, no need to worry…I have got directions from Google Map…I will get there! March 25, 2009, 7.40am: Here it is, Exit 5, Orchard Lake Road! I am in Farmington H

My first trip to Detroit!

Hi everybody, I am the new intern at AutoCom Associates and I just would like to introduce myself on the AutoCom Intern Blog. My name is Annika and I am 23 years old. I study business administration with a major in marketing, psychology and human resources at Justus Liebig University in Giessen. Originally I come from Paderborn. Last summer I did an internship at one of AutoComs customers: Hella KG Hueck & Co. In August Larry invited me to an interview in Frankfurt and two weeks later I was offered an internship. I am sure you can imagine how glad I was when I read this e-mail. Thank you for giving me this great opportunity! This is my first visit to the United States. Before I arrived in Detroit I saw movies like 8 Mile etc. and I expected to see lots of dangerous people. But of course I don’t! Instead I met very nice and helpful persons. This is one thing I really like in the US. People keep in touch and care about each other. I spent my first day applying for my social security
