Old Flames Never Die

Beginning today, AutoCom interns are starting a new practice on the intern blog! Every Friday the AutoCom interns will write a topical blog in which they relate current topics back to Public Relations. We'll keep you posted!

Last week was the kick-off for one of the most romantic disaster movies of all times to flicker again on the world’s big screens after almost 15 years since the first release: Titanic.

Rose and Jack, you jump I jump, the iceberg, the Titanic sinks – the story did not change. But how do movie producers expect the exact same movie that is already out for 15 years to attract millions of viewers into the theatres all over again?

Well, the answer is easy: It’s in 3D! An old story, known by almost everyone can be perceived as completely new by changing only one detail with great effect.

This is a very simple but clever concept that can also be seen in Public Relations.
In an era of new technologies like the emergence of social media and the rising practice of electronic correspondence, people might be scared not to catch up with the industry if they don’t adjust their practices to the current trends. However, it is important to know that not all of those old habits need to be changed.
A good old letter with a personal note sent by “real” mail does sometimes have a greater influence than just simply shooting a short impersonal e-mail that might even get lost in the bulks of e-mails that people usually receive these days. A face-to-face meeting once in a while is an important way to build relationships with your clients, which is especially important for a PR agency, and with the new possibility of having video calls it is even possible to have meetings simultaneously on different places of the world.

Of course this is not an appeal to stick reluctantly to old things, businesses should definitely go with the flow of new innovations of the time, but it’s just a little reminder that not every business practice has to go overboard as soon as a new trend arises.

Stay tuned for weekly blog updates!

About Cologne, Cars and Trees… - Update from the other Side of the Lake

Hi or as we would say in Franconia "Servus", a couple of months have passed since I started my internship at AutoCom and even though I cannot share something about the amazing sites within and around Detroit, I can still give you an update on what is happening.  Philipp has joined us two months ago and we two are currently working on the Social Media Appearance of AutoCom. Even as "digital nomads" we encounter challenges and still have a lot to learn. However, it is great just to create new things from scratch or nearly immediately see a result when sharing a story or creating a post.  But enough of work… About Cologne Larry and the others offered me to go to Cologne to attend a meeting with a client and I - of course - couldn't resist and decided to stay even a bit longer. It was a nice trip with splendid late summer weather and I was able to take a lot of images - at least until my battery died.  About cars Since some of my initial projects were crushed by th...

Jack inducted into PRSA Detroit Chapter Hall of Fame!

Hi everyone! Last night we went to the PRSA Detroit Chapter’s annual meeting. During the meeting was a ceremony for Jack Harned’s induction into the Hall of Fame. The meeting was downtown at the beautiful DTE Energy building. We had a great time networking with fellow colleagues in the PR industry and catching up with previous AutoCom employees. After dinner, Marty gave a great introduction to Jack. Jack’s speech was absolutely wonderful! Every one loved it! He talked about some of his past experiences from his hometown newspaper to working with GM and NASA. It seemed that everyone loved hearing his stories as much as we do at our Friday lunches! It’s great to know that Jack’s peers recognize all of his hard work. He has accomplished and seen so much, he truly deserves this award. From all of us at AutoCom: Congrats, Jack! We are all so proud of you! Leave some comments for Jack and keep an eye out for pictures, coming soon, at AutoCom's Facebook page! Until next time, Julia, Kerry...

News from Susanne

Hey AutoComers, First of all I wish you all a very merry Christmas and a wonderful time with your family and friends! How have you all been? I moved back to Cambridge this fall to continue my last year of studies. I was really really happy to be a student again after working for a year, especially after my pretty stressful internship at BMW…. And now I want to work again J never right the way it is… Life in Cambridge is fun. I live with 4 roommates and we share a flat very close to the city center and University. So this year we can actually walk places and didn’t have to buy bikes again… (yea mine was unfortunately gone after a year and a half left in the city center all by itself chained to a post) There has not much been going on lately, I have only been writing assignments for the last 8 weeks, my final year is very busy. Between my second internship and University, I got a job at Continental as a working student for a month in the sales department for Motorcycle ABS. It was good e...
