Doreen’s Travel Journal

Hey AutoComers,

here is a little summary of my journey to California and Costa Rica. Hope you enjoy it and don’t get too envious! :-P
Three days after my last day @AutoCom I started my big trip, which I was looking forward to for such a long time. My first destination was Los Angeles, where I spent four nights in a very nice hostel. I met so many people from all over the world there and we took tours arranged by the hostel (for example to the Getty Museum). Besides that I saw walls, fences and (sometimes) houses of celebrities during a so-called “LA city tour.” But luckily, the bus also stopped at the famous spots, such as the Hollywood sign, the Walk of Fame and Universal Studios.
By the end of the week I got a rental car and headed south towards the Mexican border with stopovers at beautiful beaches like Newport Beach, Laguna Beach and Huntington Beach. After taking tons of pictures and videos I finally reached my destination, San Diego. I spent a whole week there doing activities like visiting the world famous zoo, walking on white sanded beaches and catching grunions at night. I even took a tour with an amphibious car called “The Seal!”

Unfortunately my stay in SD was influenced by a lot of worries concerning the swine flu. As you know, I actually wanted to fly to Cancun to spend two weeks in Mexico/Yucatan. Two days before my flight I decided together with my friend Sebastian to change that plan. With absolutely no clue about Costa Rica I met him in the capital San José to start our vacation in Central America.

From this day on we called our travel guide “Lonely Planet” our “Bible,” because it told us where to go, where to sleep, where to eat and what to do! We traveled by bus and boat through the country and could therefore see a lot of beautiful landscapes.

We did a lot of fun things in the different places. For instance, we canopied in La Fortuna, hiked the cloud forests in Monte Verde and rode horses on the beaches of Montezuma. It was nice!! I especially fell in love with Montezuma because we could lay in hammocks at the Pacific ocean, snorkel near the small island Tortuga and just relax with some refreshing fruit shakes in our hands and music in our ears.

After this chill-out part of our trip we headed back to San José (with a night in between in not-so great Jacó) and finished our vacation on the roof-deck of our fancy hostel with a beautiful view over the lighted city.

Wow....sounds like a great trip. As you know, Kathi and I were in Cancun during that same time. There actually was no problem with influenza porcina....it was pretty much concentrated in densely populated areas of Mexico city.

I'm glad you didn't have a problem there! I'll postpone my trip to Mexico, because I still really want to go!! But for this moment, Costa Rica was very nice, too. :-)

I am so jealous! I want to go to California, too! Three more months to go and I will make my way to the West coast ... or maybe East coast.

A New Year, a New Intern

Hi everybody, My name is Véronique and I am happy to say that I will be one of the new interns at AutoCom beginning on March 19. I am a 21 year old student from Germany. The internship is part of my International Business & Management degree that I am working on at the Hanze University in Groningen, Netherlands. I am currently in my third year at Hanze University and the previous semester I studied abroad at a partner university in Macau, China, where I took courses related to my marketing major. I am very excited to start my second stay abroad in a few weeks and I hope that I will gain a lot of professional experience and get to know the area of public relations while working at AutoCom. I also love traveling, so I hope I will be able to see as much of the U.S. as possible, especially since it is my first stay there. It feels good to be home!

After completing my third year at Northern Michigan University in the Upper Peninsula, it feels good to be back home and in the office again. Larry was very gracious in allowing me to come back to AutoCom. For those of you that do not know me, my name is Tedi Falvo. Last summer I did an internship with AutoCom, and learned a lot about public relations outside of the classroom. Books can only teach you so much- the real learning comes when you go out on your own and put everything you have learned to the test. Last summer was a great experience, and I was thankful to work with such a great staff that was willing to help me succeed. While I was in Marquette, Mich. continuing my studies in public relations, and sociology, I remained in contact with AutoCom. When I had a question regarding an aspect of my studies, I always knew where to turn! It is nice to have wonderful people surrounding and filling you with all of their knowledge.
