New blood from Germany

Hey everybody!

I’m the new intern at AutoCom Associates, and for the next six months I’m going to be part of your lovely family. So, who am I? My name is Doreen and I’m 24 years old. I study business administration with a major in marketing and tourism at the University in Rostock, Germany.
Last November Larry invited me to an interview in Frankfurt, and two weeks after our meeting I was offered an internship. I’m sure you can imagine how glad I was when I heard this! I’m really grateful for having this opportunity, and I started to make plans for my stay in the US right away, because living here has always been a dream for me.

Since then, October 9, 2008 has been the start date of a whole new phase in my life. After settling all matters, it took me more than 20 hours to land in Detroit, because I flew via London and Chicago. Tony picked me up at the airport and we drove to Royal Oak, where I moved into my new home and met my roommates.
The first couple of days have been amazing. The warm weather was perfect for my first activities in Michigan. For example, I went to the Detroit Zoo to watch the cute seals in the water tube. I also visited Belle Isle, where I could see the wonderful skyline of Detroit and Canada, and I met some of my new coworkers (Christina, Anja and Sara) at a sushi bar in Royal Oak. After that we went to a club, where I heard one of my favorite songs, which now has a special meaning to me: “Put your hands up for Detroit” ;-)
Overall, my start was close to perfect and I can’t wait to see what else is waiting for me.
Thank you all for your nice, warm welcome at work, too. I’m looking forward to the next six months and hope I can learn a lot about press relations and the American culture.

Hi Doreen!
Welcome to AutoCom.
Wow, it sounds like you already had a lot of fun.

I have a song that reminds me of my time there, too. Ask Maggie for TrickTricks song "Welcome to Detroit City"! :o)

So if you stay 6 months we might have a change to meet each other as I am applying for my fiancée visa right now (which is a long and exhausting procedure). And I will come to see my crazy American friends at AutoCom anyway. so we should meet then, too.

I wish you all the best for your internship and a lot of fun. If you need any travel tips or anything else just let me know. :)

About Cologne, Cars and Trees… - Update from the other Side of the Lake

Hi or as we would say in Franconia "Servus", a couple of months have passed since I started my internship at AutoCom and even though I cannot share something about the amazing sites within and around Detroit, I can still give you an update on what is happening.  Philipp has joined us two months ago and we two are currently working on the Social Media Appearance of AutoCom. Even as "digital nomads" we encounter challenges and still have a lot to learn. However, it is great just to create new things from scratch or nearly immediately see a result when sharing a story or creating a post.  But enough of work… About Cologne Larry and the others offered me to go to Cologne to attend a meeting with a client and I - of course - couldn't resist and decided to stay even a bit longer. It was a nice trip with splendid late summer weather and I was able to take a lot of images - at least until my battery died.  About cars Since some of my initial projects were crushed by th...

A New Year, a New Intern

Hi everybody, My name is Véronique and I am happy to say that I will be one of the new interns at AutoCom beginning on March 19. I am a 21 year old student from Germany. The internship is part of my International Business & Management degree that I am working on at the Hanze University in Groningen, Netherlands. I am currently in my third year at Hanze University and the previous semester I studied abroad at a partner university in Macau, China, where I took courses related to my marketing major. I am very excited to start my second stay abroad in a few weeks and I hope that I will gain a lot of professional experience and get to know the area of public relations while working at AutoCom. I also love traveling, so I hope I will be able to see as much of the U.S. as possible, especially since it is my first stay there. It has always been a dream of mine to visit the U.S. and now being able to learn the entire culture and industry by actually living there is a huge bonus. Right now I...

It feels good to be home!

After completing my third year at Northern Michigan University in the Upper Peninsula, it feels good to be back home and in the office again. Larry was very gracious in allowing me to come back to AutoCom. For those of you that do not know me, my name is Tedi Falvo. Last summer I did an internship with AutoCom, and learned a lot about public relations outside of the classroom. Books can only teach you so much- the real learning comes when you go out on your own and put everything you have learned to the test. Last summer was a great experience, and I was thankful to work with such a great staff that was willing to help me succeed. While I was in Marquette, Mich. continuing my studies in public relations, and sociology, I remained in contact with AutoCom. When I had a question regarding an aspect of my studies, I always knew where to turn! It is nice to have wonderful people surrounding and filling you with all of their knowledge. That is one aspect I love about working here-everyone wo...
