Merle's visit at WXYZ, channel 7

Last Tuesday Merle was invited to join Jack on a tour of WXYZ, channel 7.
This tour was guided by Colleen Clement, Executive Producer at WXYZ-TV as part of the Open world Leadership program of the International visitors’ council, Detroit. The Open World Program is an initiative of and funded by the United States Congress that builds mutual understanding between the emerging leaders of participating countries and their U.S. counterparts. It also exposes delegates to ideas and practices they can adapt for use in their own work. The IVC Detroit acts as a liaison between international visitors and their Detroit-area counterparts each year.

For this program six journalists from the country of Georgia were invited to the United States to explore Detroit and its world of journalism.

The tour at channel 7 started with a roundtable discussion, joined by an investigative producer and a social media reporter. During the roundtable each journalist was given the opportunity to introduce his work from back in Georgia, and to ask about journalism practices here in the United States.

One part that was very interesting but also shocking was how differently journalism is treated in Georgia. One reporter told a story about how her entire office and work got destroyed as she was investigating on influential people in Georgia who were violating the law. Her whole news team did not receive any help on finding the responsible people and had to try to get their office back running with the help of donations, and other journalists who were publishing their stories.

The roundtable discussions were followed by a tour through the studio, and ended by watching the filming of the channel 7 live at noon news. This was a once in a lifetime experience for the whole group as they were allowed to sit in the studio while the news were being filmed. Afterwards they visited the ‘control room’ and were able to see how the behind the scenes people operate. Everything had to be on time and the news studio was displayed on several screens to oversee every action during air-time. The tour ended by a quick chat with the news acnhors.

Overall this was a very unique experience and a great day thanks to Jack and the WXYZ-TV- team.

About Cologne, Cars and Trees… - Update from the other Side of the Lake

Hi or as we would say in Franconia "Servus", a couple of months have passed since I started my internship at AutoCom and even though I cannot share something about the amazing sites within and around Detroit, I can still give you an update on what is happening.  Philipp has joined us two months ago and we two are currently working on the Social Media Appearance of AutoCom. Even as "digital nomads" we encounter challenges and still have a lot to learn. However, it is great just to create new things from scratch or nearly immediately see a result when sharing a story or creating a post.  But enough of work… About Cologne Larry and the others offered me to go to Cologne to attend a meeting with a client and I - of course - couldn't resist and decided to stay even a bit longer. It was a nice trip with splendid late summer weather and I was able to take a lot of images - at least until my battery died.  About cars Since some of my initial projects were crushed by th...

Jack inducted into PRSA Detroit Chapter Hall of Fame!

Hi everyone! Last night we went to the PRSA Detroit Chapter’s annual meeting. During the meeting was a ceremony for Jack Harned’s induction into the Hall of Fame. The meeting was downtown at the beautiful DTE Energy building. We had a great time networking with fellow colleagues in the PR industry and catching up with previous AutoCom employees. After dinner, Marty gave a great introduction to Jack. Jack’s speech was absolutely wonderful! Every one loved it! He talked about some of his past experiences from his hometown newspaper to working with GM and NASA. It seemed that everyone loved hearing his stories as much as we do at our Friday lunches! It’s great to know that Jack’s peers recognize all of his hard work. He has accomplished and seen so much, he truly deserves this award. From all of us at AutoCom: Congrats, Jack! We are all so proud of you! Leave some comments for Jack and keep an eye out for pictures, coming soon, at AutoCom's Facebook page! Until next time, Julia, Kerry...

It feels good to be home!

After completing my third year at Northern Michigan University in the Upper Peninsula, it feels good to be back home and in the office again. Larry was very gracious in allowing me to come back to AutoCom. For those of you that do not know me, my name is Tedi Falvo. Last summer I did an internship with AutoCom, and learned a lot about public relations outside of the classroom. Books can only teach you so much- the real learning comes when you go out on your own and put everything you have learned to the test. Last summer was a great experience, and I was thankful to work with such a great staff that was willing to help me succeed. While I was in Marquette, Mich. continuing my studies in public relations, and sociology, I remained in contact with AutoCom. When I had a question regarding an aspect of my studies, I always knew where to turn! It is nice to have wonderful people surrounding and filling you with all of their knowledge. That is one aspect I love about working here-everyone wo...
