Happy holidays!

Hi Everyone,

Sorry that it has been a while since we uploaded our last blog entry. A lot has happened in the past weeks, and not only at work. We celebrated two major national holidays here in the States – Halloween and Thanksgiving.

Let’s start with Halloween. As you know this holiday is a big deal over here. Weeks before the 31st of October people started decorating their houses, carving pumpkins and getting their costumes ready. It was fun to experience all those activities and attend some real American Halloween parties. On the evening of the 31st a few kids would come by for trick-or-treating in both cute and scary costumes.

We have also done a trip to Washington D.C. on the weekend right after Election Day (November 8). It was very interesting to follow the debates and to feel the atmosphere prior to the election and after the votes had been made. The capital of the U.S. is a truly beautiful city. We did a lot of sightseeing as the weather was incredibly nice. We visited the Capitol, the Library of Congress and the Air and Space Museum just to name a few. Of course, we also saw the White House, although it was at a far distance.

On the Thanksgiving holiday weekend we went to Chicago after having a typical Thanksgiving dinner with turkey and lots of different delicious side dishes like sweet potatoes and pumpkin. Being in Chicago we understood why it got its nickname “the windy city”. It was super cold and windy in comparison to our previous trip to Washington D.C.

Besides the weather, Chicago is quite different than the capital in regards its architecture and neighborhoods. Despite the cold temperatures we have done lots of touristy activities like sitting on an architecture boat tour, going to the top of the Hancock and Willis Towers to get awesome views on the city, taking photos at the famous Cloud Gate in the Millennium Park and walking along the Navy Pier. We also ran into a very German Christmas Market. In addition, we went midnight shopping on Black Friday - the crowd in the mall was insane.

Furthermore, we went to two Detroit Piston games. In our opinion, basketball is more interesting than football or baseball to follow since the rules are much easier to understand and the show program during the breaks is extremely entertaining.

Thanksgiving was barely over when the Christmas season started. Similar to Halloween a couple of months ago, this holiday is celebrated big and fancy. In downtown Royal Oak, where we live, there was a huge Santa Pub Crawl event in mid-December which we joined with friends. It was fun to see so many people wearing Santa hats and “ugly” Christmas sweaters all at once.

In this sense we wish you all a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!

Stay tuned for our blog posts in 2017!

About Cologne, Cars and Trees… - Update from the other Side of the Lake

Hi or as we would say in Franconia "Servus", a couple of months have passed since I started my internship at AutoCom and even though I cannot share something about the amazing sites within and around Detroit, I can still give you an update on what is happening.  Philipp has joined us two months ago and we two are currently working on the Social Media Appearance of AutoCom. Even as "digital nomads" we encounter challenges and still have a lot to learn. However, it is great just to create new things from scratch or nearly immediately see a result when sharing a story or creating a post.  But enough of work… About Cologne Larry and the others offered me to go to Cologne to attend a meeting with a client and I - of course - couldn't resist and decided to stay even a bit longer. It was a nice trip with splendid late summer weather and I was able to take a lot of images - at least until my battery died.  About cars Since some of my initial projects were crushed by th...

I won’t be an intern anymore. :)

Hi everybody! There is news again from my life. You know, I am a person who never stops doing something. Either I travel almost every weekend (like I did in the States) or I am looking for new challenges all the time. :-) Well, my internship in Munich as a marketing consulting intern is not too bad, but I have finished University…so what I want is a real job and not an internship. (The only internship I would love to do, even after I graduated, is the one I already did with AutoCom). :) So I continued applying for jobs. I restricted the area to Bavaria for the first applications, because I love that part of Germany. I love the Bavarian dialect (it is so cute and sexy the same time). I love their “Brezn” and their white sausages. And here is the news: I will start on the 26th of November as an employee at Novartis. Novartis is a huge German pharmaceutical company. I will work there for the strategic sourcing marketing. So I will be the one choosing agencies, advertising materials and so...
Hi everyone, My name is Sarah Heuser. I’m 23 years old and from a small town near Cologne, Germany. I just finished my master’s in Journalism and Corporate Communications at the University of Applied Sciences in Wuerzburg. Even though I have a bachelor’s degree in Media and American Studies, I have never been to the US before. That’s why I really wanted to do an internship here so I could see what life and work is like. Rebecca and Julian, the other AutoCom interns, picked me up from the airport last Saturday and my new roommates and some of their friends were already waiting for me. We are all living in Royal Oak, but I’m in a different house than the other AutoCom interns. They are currently taking me to work as I am still figuring out details regarding my car. Last week, which was also my first week at work, was the 4 th of July holiday. That’s why I joined Rebecca, Julian and other interns on a trip to New York. We drove over ten hours but it was worth it: the city is impr...
