Time to say goodbye.

Today is one of the worst days at AutoCom because Austin is leaving us. At this point of time, I can’t even imagine how to handle it but on Monday we will have to find the answer. He is so much fun, always the one to talk to first and in addition to being a great colleague, he became a real friend for us! We’ll never ever forget the time with you in the office and how much fun we had with you in our free time for example at the Wolverines game or the birthday party with Jana. Thank you Austin!

About sweets, hearts and pink.

Today is Valentine’s Day or “the day men hate most” or for me: just another Thursday. Ok, one exception: Everyone here freaks out about getting a last-minute date or present and the shops are all decorated in pink or red. Singing Cards with flashing lights, sweets wrapped in sparkling pink paper with romantic lines on it… This is another clash of cultures for me because Valentine’s Day simply is no big deal in Germany. To be honest, I don’t get why people need a day to remember that they should care for their partner. The other new experience for me was Fat Tuesday. It is the last day before the fasting season starts and it is tradition to have lots of food and especially paczkis (comparable to Berliner in Germany). Denise brought some paczkis to the office and we “celebrated” Fat Tuesday together. :D What are your Valentine’s plans and how many paczkis did you have?

Our next big American experience: The Super Bowl!

Some of our new friends enjoying the food :) The Super Bowl, one of the largest sports events in the world, took place last Sunday and of course both of us watched it. Only interrupted by the blackout, we had a great time with our new friends and a whole bunch of food. Of course all that did not go without the cheesy pizza, a ton of chips and a lot of other awesome goodies. The fact that everyone was cheering for a different team made the already exiting come back of the 49er an electrifying football game! What a great experience and memory! How did you experience Super Bowl XLVII? Tell us about how your emotions went up and down during the game!!!

Visiting the NAIAS

The NAIAS is an annual highlight, not only for Detroit and the entire automotive industry, but also for the AutoCom interns! Attended by nearly 800,000 people, the 2013 NAIAS was a great success for everyone and topped last year's number of visitors by 25,000. AutoComs’ clients like GIBBS and Alcantara derived advantage from the outstanding performance of the show and were paid a visit by Nina and Jana. It was amazing to see how they implement the products we are working with every day and how the visitors were responsive to them. How did you like the NAIAS and did you see the Quadski and the Alcantara in the BMW Z4? If not, don’t worry, we took pictures of both of them ;-) Tell us about your experience!

Visiting Point Pelee, the most southern part of Canada

Located 30 miles (50 km) south-east of Windsor, Ontario, Point Pelee National Park of Canada is one of Canada's smallest national parks and is known for its   mild climate due to its geographic location, which is comparable to Rome and Barcelona. “Warm and sunny weather” that sounds nice, especially in Michigan during the winter period but… About 17 ºF (we are talking about not quite less than -8 ºC) and a “refreshing” wind at least made us feel like we were in Canada :D Anyways, we did not freeze to death and it was definitely worth it! The marsh boardwalk and the tip, the most southern point of Canada, were awesome and we took a lot of wonderful pictures of the ice crystals, the shafts of sunlight breaking through the clouds, as well as the rough but still calming beach. Have you ever been to Point Pelee? Maybe in the summer time? What were your experiences? We would be glad to hear how Point Pelee appears during other seasons!

Back in Detroit, the NAIAS!

The North American International Auto Show (NAIAS) is back in the motor city! Founded in 1987, the show has lived up to its reputation of being one of the top in the world and is one of the major annual events for Autocom and our clients. This year, GIBBS, exhibiting the new Quadski and Alcantara, featured in the BMW Z4 along with other vehicles, are represented at the show. We are going to visit the exhibition and the booth of our clients next week! That will be awesome and I will keep you posted and tell you about our experiences! Have you already been to the NAIAS? What did you like most? Tell us about your experiences!

What are the odds!?

One year has 12 month and 365 days in it… so far so good… Analytically speaking a chance of 0.3% to have two randomly chosen people having the same birthday, but Austin and I, we do!!! That should be a good reason for a great birthday party! We met in Royal Oak, headed out to the clubs and had a lot of fun!!
