First Week at AutoCom!

Hello to everybody:

My name is Peter Wessenberg, I am from Straubing, Germany, a smaller town in the south of Bavaria, near Ratisbon. I am the second intern here at AutoCom Associates for the next upcoming six months. I will tell you a little bit of my first experience since my arrival. My first day in Detroit Metropolitan was Thursday September 25st. My colleague picked me up from the airport and gave me a ride to my apartment in Royal Oak. After a 40-minute drive we arrived there and my landlady Carol was already there to introduce me to my new home for the next 6 months. She is a good contact for housing in Royal Oak. It is a comfortable location for young people with an appropriate distance to work, which will takes about 30 minutes by car. The whole house and especially my room were cozy and well equipped. You don’t need to bring much on your own. In the first picture you can see one of the beautiful sunsets here, directly in front of our front porch.

Somerset Collection
My new flat mates took me out on my first day to a little burger restaurant called “Jim Brady’s” - A good address for fresh-made burgers and other dishes out of an american cuisine in Royal Oak. What you will definitely need is your own car; you can lease one or buy one. I would advise you to buy one because it can be sold afterwards; which eventually is cheaper. My new friends also took me to the “Somerset Collection” (sec. picture) a big mall beside Woodward Ave. You will find a lot of magnificent stores there with a good selection of clothing and other. As you can see, there is a lot to explore around here. My first day at work was very interesting. The whole team is really nice and friendly. You will get your introductions and can ask whatever you want; which helps a lot in the beginning.

About Cologne, Cars and Trees… - Update from the other Side of the Lake

Hi or as we would say in Franconia "Servus", a couple of months have passed since I started my internship at AutoCom and even though I cannot share something about the amazing sites within and around Detroit, I can still give you an update on what is happening.  Philipp has joined us two months ago and we two are currently working on the Social Media Appearance of AutoCom. Even as "digital nomads" we encounter challenges and still have a lot to learn. However, it is great just to create new things from scratch or nearly immediately see a result when sharing a story or creating a post.  But enough of work… About Cologne Larry and the others offered me to go to Cologne to attend a meeting with a client and I - of course - couldn't resist and decided to stay even a bit longer. It was a nice trip with splendid late summer weather and I was able to take a lot of images - at least until my battery died.  About cars Since some of my initial projects were crushed by th...

A New Year, a New Intern

Hi everybody, My name is Véronique and I am happy to say that I will be one of the new interns at AutoCom beginning on March 19. I am a 21 year old student from Germany. The internship is part of my International Business & Management degree that I am working on at the Hanze University in Groningen, Netherlands. I am currently in my third year at Hanze University and the previous semester I studied abroad at a partner university in Macau, China, where I took courses related to my marketing major. I am very excited to start my second stay abroad in a few weeks and I hope that I will gain a lot of professional experience and get to know the area of public relations while working at AutoCom. I also love traveling, so I hope I will be able to see as much of the U.S. as possible, especially since it is my first stay there. It has always been a dream of mine to visit the U.S. and now being able to learn the entire culture and industry by actually living there is a huge bonus. Right now I...

Time to say Goodbye

Only two days left until Don Haberek will leave the AutoCom Team. He was our COO, interns supervisor and the best cake cutter ever! He always had time for the intern's issues and was listening very patiently and carefully to us. Even if he had to repeat his advice a billion times for the foreign interns! But he wasn't only a great interns supervisor. He also gave everbody the oppotunity to gain some weight, when he was cutting perfectly our (nearly weekly ;-)) cake. We really hope, we will find somebody who has the same great technic to cut a cake: 1) Be very gentle to the cake! 2) Use a very sharpe-edged knife, especially our chocolate junky Mareike doesn't want to waste a bit! 3) Be sure that you cut enough pieces. But we think we allready have a new cake cutter. After a long long time Don finally found his twin brother. And accidentally he is working for AutoCom aswell. :-) Who is dressing like Don, must have the same skills! Thanks for everything, we wi ll miss having...
