Visit from Germany

Hi there,

This is Marie again with some different news this time. A friend from Germany was here to visit last week. That’s why we did a lot of sightseeing and explored the city of Detroit. We got lucky and had a great time with beautiful weather. The summer finally arrived in Michigan! If you ever want to visit Detroit, this could also be a sightseeing tour suggestion for you.
Riverfront
Downtown Detroit
We spent our first day together in downtown Detroit. We walked along the Riverfront from where we could see Canada and the Ambassador Bridge which lets you drive to Canada. We enjoyed the beautiful weather and ate a typical American burger.

The next thing on our list was Belle Isle. Unfortunately, they closed the area where you can see Detroit’s skyline due to an upcoming race. But we got lucky and the guy from the Dossin Great Lakes Museum took us up on the rooftop. We had an awesome view of Canada as well as the skyline.

Ambassador Bridge
We not only saw Canada from the U.S. side, but we also did a road trip to Canada for Memorial Day weekend. To get to Canada from Michigan you have to cross one of the lakes. Therefore we used the Ambassador Bridge we saw some days before from the Riverfront for crossing the border. In Canada, we visited the Niagara Falls – absolutely spectacular! I didn’t know that the town that is located over there is also called Niagara Falls. It looks like a small Las Vegas with all the amusement stores and casinos. This weekend there was also the Springlicious Festival – a lot of food trucks, around 5 stages where bands performed and other booths. On our way back we stopped at Point Pelee National Park. Point Pelee is the southernmost point of mainland Canada, and is located on a foundation of glacial sand, silt and gravel that bites into Lake Erie.

We had such a great time together and I’m glad my friend was here for a visit. Now, back to work…

Sounds like you and your friend had a great Memorial Day weekend. Glad you had an opportunity to spend some time in Canada as well. We love the Niagara region -- lots of biking trails, golf courses, wineries, theatre (Shaw Festival in Niagara-on-the-Lake), fantastic food etc.

About Cologne, Cars and Trees… - Update from the other Side of the Lake

Hi or as we would say in Franconia "Servus", a couple of months have passed since I started my internship at AutoCom and even though I cannot share something about the amazing sites within and around Detroit, I can still give you an update on what is happening.  Philipp has joined us two months ago and we two are currently working on the Social Media Appearance of AutoCom. Even as "digital nomads" we encounter challenges and still have a lot to learn. However, it is great just to create new things from scratch or nearly immediately see a result when sharing a story or creating a post.  But enough of work… About Cologne Larry and the others offered me to go to Cologne to attend a meeting with a client and I - of course - couldn't resist and decided to stay even a bit longer. It was a nice trip with splendid late summer weather and I was able to take a lot of images - at least until my battery died.  About cars Since some of my initial projects were crushed by th...

I won’t be an intern anymore. :)

Hi everybody! There is news again from my life. You know, I am a person who never stops doing something. Either I travel almost every weekend (like I did in the States) or I am looking for new challenges all the time. :-) Well, my internship in Munich as a marketing consulting intern is not too bad, but I have finished University…so what I want is a real job and not an internship. (The only internship I would love to do, even after I graduated, is the one I already did with AutoCom). :) So I continued applying for jobs. I restricted the area to Bavaria for the first applications, because I love that part of Germany. I love the Bavarian dialect (it is so cute and sexy the same time). I love their “Brezn” and their white sausages. And here is the news: I will start on the 26th of November as an employee at Novartis. Novartis is a huge German pharmaceutical company. I will work there for the strategic sourcing marketing. So I will be the one choosing agencies, advertising materials and so...
Hi everyone, My name is Sarah Heuser. I’m 23 years old and from a small town near Cologne, Germany. I just finished my master’s in Journalism and Corporate Communications at the University of Applied Sciences in Wuerzburg. Even though I have a bachelor’s degree in Media and American Studies, I have never been to the US before. That’s why I really wanted to do an internship here so I could see what life and work is like. Rebecca and Julian, the other AutoCom interns, picked me up from the airport last Saturday and my new roommates and some of their friends were already waiting for me. We are all living in Royal Oak, but I’m in a different house than the other AutoCom interns. They are currently taking me to work as I am still figuring out details regarding my car. Last week, which was also my first week at work, was the 4 th of July holiday. That’s why I joined Rebecca, Julian and other interns on a trip to New York. We drove over ten hours but it was worth it: the city is impr...
