Internship Finish Line In Sight

Many things were happening in the last weeks and for some reason I have the impression time is passing by faster and faster. Only six days to go until my six month internship is over – wow! I am glad to have six weeks left for travelling and that’s why I am planning a trip to explore as much as possible.. Hopefully, I will be able to tell you some planned highlights before I’m done.

Lake St. Clair Metropark
Even stores are posting clear messages.

Fortunately, the Michigan winter is leaving even though we still from time to time have minus degrees (Celsius). The sun is shining longer and brighter, the snow is melting, all lakes and rivers lose their thick ice covered surface and I am happy to have a slight impression of summer times in Michigan. Now I am enjoying every chance to drive through Woodward Ave with open windows, heat off and sun in my face after work.

"Red Wings Bar"
Columbus vs. Red Wings
Meanwhile, I went to my first NHL game of the Detroit Red Wings. An awesome experience I’ll never forget. After having dinner at a Red Wings Club restaurant before the games started, we were well prepared by the red-dressed people who surrounded us and provided a good mood. It was great sitting in the Joe Louis Arena with approx. 10.000 people, commenting any action on ice and supporting the Red Wings loudly. Unfortunately, Detroit lost in the end 3:1.

Original New York Times, 1969
Another great experience were stories of Jack Harned, Senior Partner at AutoCom, who told us about his career steps including his work for a sub-company of GM, which was providing navigation systems for the Apollo missions. He was showing us several press releases, press kits and photos so we had a very good impression of his work and the time in the 1960s. Additionally, he was presenting us material from his personal archive. So I had the chance to read the original edition from Monday, July 21, 1969 of the New York Times with the Title: Men Walk On Moon.

Last week two friends had to fly back to Germany which reminded me again it’s only a small step away from now until I have to go. On the one hand I am looking forward to my life back in Germany, meeting all my friends and taking my next career step – I got a job in Berlin for the time after the US. But on the other hand I am so excited about the next weeks in this country with all these nice people around me and hopefully my car is too, because I already planned lots of travelling by car ;) So keep your fingers crossed! In six days you’ll read my final story as an intern at AutoCom - be prepared ;)

About Cologne, Cars and Trees… - Update from the other Side of the Lake

Hi or as we would say in Franconia "Servus", a couple of months have passed since I started my internship at AutoCom and even though I cannot share something about the amazing sites within and around Detroit, I can still give you an update on what is happening.  Philipp has joined us two months ago and we two are currently working on the Social Media Appearance of AutoCom. Even as "digital nomads" we encounter challenges and still have a lot to learn. However, it is great just to create new things from scratch or nearly immediately see a result when sharing a story or creating a post.  But enough of work… About Cologne Larry and the others offered me to go to Cologne to attend a meeting with a client and I - of course - couldn't resist and decided to stay even a bit longer. It was a nice trip with splendid late summer weather and I was able to take a lot of images - at least until my battery died.  About cars Since some of my initial projects were crushed by th...

A New Year, a New Intern

Hi everybody, My name is Véronique and I am happy to say that I will be one of the new interns at AutoCom beginning on March 19. I am a 21 year old student from Germany. The internship is part of my International Business & Management degree that I am working on at the Hanze University in Groningen, Netherlands. I am currently in my third year at Hanze University and the previous semester I studied abroad at a partner university in Macau, China, where I took courses related to my marketing major. I am very excited to start my second stay abroad in a few weeks and I hope that I will gain a lot of professional experience and get to know the area of public relations while working at AutoCom. I also love traveling, so I hope I will be able to see as much of the U.S. as possible, especially since it is my first stay there. It has always been a dream of mine to visit the U.S. and now being able to learn the entire culture and industry by actually living there is a huge bonus. Right now I...

It feels good to be home!

After completing my third year at Northern Michigan University in the Upper Peninsula, it feels good to be back home and in the office again. Larry was very gracious in allowing me to come back to AutoCom. For those of you that do not know me, my name is Tedi Falvo. Last summer I did an internship with AutoCom, and learned a lot about public relations outside of the classroom. Books can only teach you so much- the real learning comes when you go out on your own and put everything you have learned to the test. Last summer was a great experience, and I was thankful to work with such a great staff that was willing to help me succeed. While I was in Marquette, Mich. continuing my studies in public relations, and sociology, I remained in contact with AutoCom. When I had a question regarding an aspect of my studies, I always knew where to turn! It is nice to have wonderful people surrounding and filling you with all of their knowledge. That is one aspect I love about working here-everyone wo...
