Last week I escaped from cold Michigan to make a little tour through Florida with a friend of mine. After landing in Miami, we picked up our rental car: a Chrysler Sebring Convertible 2008 in metallic blue! We immediately fell in love with that beautiful cabrio and drove directly to our hotel in Miami Beach.
There we explored the beach and the night life, although it was not as warm as expected. (But in comparison to the -20 degrees Celsius in Detroit (the same morning) the +10 degrees were really pleasant for us ;-).)
The next day we briefly visited the Everglades, where we made an air boat tour and watched alligators swimming in the water. Afterwards we took the US1 – the Overseas Highway, surrounded by water, which connects the mainland to the Florida Keys and headed to the first island, Key Largo.
In the visitor center we met the owner Bob, who is a native of Ferndale (suburb of Detroit). He was so happy to see people from his home, that he arranged great hotel deals for us for the remaining nights. On that day we slept at a beach resort on Isla Morada. Our room was equipped with a balcony and ocean view and the resort had a little dock, shops, bars and restaurants.
The following morning we left for our final destination: Key West. On our way to this most southern key, the sun finally came out and the temperatures rose. We checked in into our adorable bed and breakfast and finished the day in a nice Mexican restaurant and some local bars.
Sunday was relaxed. We laid in the sun at the pool and rented bikes later on. It was just great to drive through all the cute little streets, passing several beaches and eating ice cream in the sun. :)
On our last day on our way back to Miami, we took a bit of time to leave the US1 every now and then to watch some islands and to stop at beaches. This time the ocean was even bluer and it was wonderful to drive in the convertible.
Later that night we landed relaxed but tired back in Detroit.

It looks like you had an awsome time!! It makes me want to go somewhere warm sooooo bad!!!
Looks as though you had a marevelous trip. But how come you didn't return with more of a tan....?
One might be led to believe you that you spent more time exploring the nightlife than the beach scene.
The two days with sun unfortunately weren't enough to get more tanned. Plus I took a lot of sunscreen ;).
