Tech Crawl 2016

Hi everyone, Yesterday was our long-time anticipated event Tech Crawl. We organized and planned so much the last couple of weeks: managing invitations, ordering promo items, preparing press kit folders and flash drives, setting up the location and much more. But eventually, the whole event went by so fast. Early in the morning, we took care of the last preparations at our office before heading over to The Stand in Birmingham. We set up our two locations, The Stand for lunch and afterglow as well as the Birmingham 8 Theater for presentations and press briefings. Clients and media representatives arrived around 11.30 a.m. Most of them mingled in the display room to see the clients’ exhibits while socializing and networking. Our second stop of Tech Crawl 2016 was the Birmingham 8 Theater – just a short walk from The Stand. Kiekert kicked off the media briefings followed by INFICON, Eview 360, HELLA and MAHLE. Additionally, Alcantara showed a company introduction video. T...

Visit from Germany

Hi there, This is Marie again with some different news this time. A friend from Germany was here to visit last week. That’s why we did a lot of sightseeing and explored the city of Detroit. We got lucky and had a great time with beautiful weather. The summer finally arrived in Michigan! If you ever want to visit Detroit, this could also be a sightseeing tour suggestion for you. Riverfront Downtown Detroit We spent our first day together in downtown Detroit. We walked along the Riverfront from where we could see Canada and the Ambassador Bridge which lets you drive to Canada. We enjoyed the beautiful weather and ate a typical American burger. The next thing on our list was Belle Isle. Unfortunately, they closed the area where you can see Detroit’s skyline due to an upcoming race. But we got lucky and the guy from the Dossin Great Lakes Museum took us up on the rooftop. We had an awesome view of Canada as well as the skyline. Ambassador Bridge We not only saw ...

Already settled in!

Hi everyone, A lot has happened over the past few weeks. First of all, the planning for Tech Crawl kicked off, which means there is some editorial and administrative work already completed, and a lot still ahead of us. However, we are excited for the upcoming tasks! I finally had the chance to visit the Ford Piquette Avenue Plant, in which the Model T, Ford’s first successful car for the masses, was built. It was an impressive experience because the cars the plant has on display have on display are in mint condition and the factory itself was saved and restored just a few years ago.  Additionally there were two important football matches the last two weeks and I got off work earlier to watch them with one of my roommates. Unfortunately, the outcome was not in our favor because Bayern München lost against Atletico Madrid. Nevertheless it was a nice experience to watch the Champions League here in the U.S. Now I look forward to the European Championship I June/Jul...

Welcome into the world of work

Hi everyone, It’s a long time ago that we had a chance to update the blog. We had a lot of work with organizing the SAE Supplier Luncheon, as well as the Freudenberg program the past few weeks. This year’s 2016 SAE World Congress Supplier Luncheon took place at the Detroit Marriott in the Renaissance Center. Directly before this event the Freudenberg program started at the same location. The Freudenberg Group had a conference with live video feed to the CEO and CFO in Germany. After joining the lunch, the participants were headed over to their next stops in Durham, NC and Aurora, IL. The luncheon with our clients and the media people went quite well – the food was delicious, the view fantastic and everyone was happy. On top of that we helped Jack and his wife Eileen at the Detroit Chapter of the Society of Professional Journalists’ Excellence in Journalism award ceremony and banquet at the San Marino Club. The SPJ presented more than 100 awards. The most important ones of the ...

An Exchange of Cultural Manners

Hi everyone, There was something to celebrate since it was Marie’s 25 th birthday two weeks ago. The day itself was nothing special and felt like every other work day, but in return the evening was more spectacular. We went to a new burger place in Royal Oak called Jim Brady’s Detroit. They offer burgers like Charlie Brown (the best Swiss and Bacon Burger), The Inferno (spicy with fried onions) or Bad Axe (with Applewood Smoked Bacon and Maple Bourbon Sauce). They all tasted fantastic. After dinner, my roommates, Donghee and Wen, surprised me with a huge birthday cake at home. There was no other choice than having it for dessert. It was such a great birthday, although my family and friends couldn’t celebrate with me as usual. A lot happened last week. The main event was St. Patrick’s Day on Thursday, March 17. It all began at the office in the morning. Larry arrived in a green sweater and Marie also wore a green shirt. As soon as Larry noticed the missing green clothes of the...

Welcome America - two new interns at AutoCom

Hi everyone, We – Marie and Florian – are the new interns at AutoCom. We both arrived at the end of February to have some time to organize stuff and to settle in. We both live in Royal Oak in a shared flat for the next six months, where nearly all the other interns from different companies are living. I am Marie and I just finished my master studies in economics at the University of Cologne in Germany. It is my second time living in the U.S.  for half a year. In 2012, I went to San Diego to do a semester abroad. It was fantastic. But as I am experiencing now, you cannot compare California and Michigan. These are totally different states. I arrived on Tuesday night at Detroit Metro Airport, where Nicole picked me up. Right the next morning, it started snowing for two days. Nevertheless, I went out to explore my neighborhood and did a walk to Royal Oak downtown. It was freezing cold, so I made a stop in a cute café to have a late breakfast. Atomic Coffee - my new f...

Life begins at the end of your comfort zone…

I cannot believe that today is my last working day at AutoCom. It still feels like yesterday when I first drove down Woodward, guided by Google maps, driven crazy by the American traffic as well as the Michigan left, and being so excited to start my internship. This was my first working experience in the field of Marketing and PR; I was not sure what I had to expect.   During the first weeks Niko and Merle were still in the office and patiently explained to me all my duties and the company culture. After they left, I was the only intern for some weeks. Merle was still helping from Germany, but the distance meant much more independence. Firstly I was not sure, how I would be able to handle it. But retrospectively this was the time when I learned the most and I lost my doubts as well as my uncertainty. I started to work independently and began to be much more confident, thanks to Merle and Denise who always encouraged and supported me. Both are not only fun to work with, I also ...
